Information on vehicle deregistration

PERMANENT DEREGISTRATION OF VEHICLES If you have decided to take your vehicle off the road and dispose of it permanently, you’ve come to the right place! Please note that this vehicle must be taken to an approved vehicle treatment centre (CAT or scrapyard) to be recycled and decontaminated in accordance with current legislation on the treatment of end-of-life vehicles.

How do you permanently deregister a vehicle?

Once the vehicle has arrived at our premises, we will carry out the electronic deregistration and issue the certificate of destruction, which are the documents certifying that the vehicle has been processed in an environmentally sound manner and permanently deregistered with the DGT. To deregister a vehicle with the DGT, you must provide:

• 1. The vehicle’s technical specifications.

Procedure for permanently deregistering a vehicle owned by a private individual

The following documents must be provided in order to scrap the vehicle and carry out its permanent deregistration with the DGT:

• 1.- The vehicle’s technical specifications.
• 2.- The vehicle registration certificate
• 3.- A photocopy of the owner’s valid identity card. (doc.1)

Documents required to permanently deregister a vehicle owned by a company

The following documents must be provided:

• 1.- Vehicle technical specifications.
• 4.- Photocopy of the managing director’s valid identity card.
• 5.- Legal representation form signed and stamped by the managing director. (doc.3)
• 6.- Deregistration form signed by the managing director. (doc.4)
• 7.- Authorisation signed by the managing director. (doc.1)

Procedure for the permanent deregistration of a vehicle without the required documents

If you are present as the owner on the day the vehicle is handed over, you must provide:

• • 1.- A photocopy of the holder’s valid identity card.
  • 2. – Lost vehicle declaration form (doc. 2) or a copy of the lost vehicle declaration.

If, however, you wish to appoint another person to hand over the vehicle, you will need to:

• 1.- A signed authorisation from the registered owner. (Doc. 1)
• 2.- A photocopy of the registered owner’s valid identity card.
• 3.- A loss report form (Doc. 2) or a copy of the loss report.

Procedure for the permanent deregistration of a vehicle whose registered owner has died

The following documents must be provided when the vehicle is registered in the name of a deceased person:

• 1. Vehicle registration certificate.
• 2. Vehicle registration certificate.
• 3.- Photocopy of the owner’s death certificate (issued by the civil registry).
• 4.- Copy of the identity card of the heir applying for deregistration.
• 5.- Deregistration form signed by the heir. (Doc. 4)
• 6. Authorisation signed by the heir. (Doc. 1)
• 7. Affidavit signed by the heir. (Doc. 5)

Procedure for the permanent deregistration of a vehicle registered abroad

In order to scrap and recycle a foreign vehicle, the following documents must be provided:

• • 1.- Vehicle technical specifications.
  • 2.- Vehicle registration certificate.
  • 3. A photocopy of the owner’s identity card, NIE or valid identity document.

If the owner cannot be present on the day of collection, they must authorise another person to hand over the vehicle and provide proof of their identity.

• 4.- Authorisation signed by the owner. (Doc. 1)
• 5.- The number plates, previously removed from the vehicle.
